GTA 6’s Advanced Weather System Officially Confirmed By Rockstar

Grand Theft Auto 6 not only has a revamped weather system, but there will be some major weather events that could impact gameplay in some capacity.

"Grand Theft Auto" fans are all too aware that it's been a full 13 years since Rockstar Games launched "GTA 5." Now, following multiple delays and what has surely been the most agonizing wait in gaming history, "Grand Theft Auto 6" is almost upon us. Thankfully, everything we've seen thus far suggests it will be more than worth the wait. Rockstar have put a frankly unfathomable level of detail into this game, which aside from finally providing the classic "GTA" mayhem we've all been craving, will allow players to enjoy side activities as thrilling as cave diving and as oddly specific as petting dogs. What's more, Rockstar has now confirmed via a new piece from Game Informer that the "GTA 6" map is twice as large as "GTA 5" and will feature dynamic weather events unlike anything the series has seen thus far.

Most significantly, it's been revealed that as Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos build their Vice City criminal empire, they'll have to periodically contend with hurricanes and tropical storms. These major weather events are a new addition, and will involve "heavy clouds, strong winds, dense atmospherics, and a lot of rain," according to Owen Shepherd, vice president of art for lighting and rendering at Rockstar. Shepherd stopped short of confirming when and how these storms will occur (it could be that they're limited to specific missions). But he did provide some insight into how storms will change the environment. "Everything is dripping wet," he said. "Water is gushing off roof edges and lampposts, thunder rumbles, and flashes of lightning light up the clouds dramatically."
