Trump Highlights Immigration Policies and Tariffs in U.S. Congress Address

President Donald Trump delivered a speech to Congress yesterday, outlining his administration’s actions during the first 43 days in office. Trump claimed his administration achieved more in this period than many previous administrations. He emphasized that, for the first time in modern history, more Americans believe the country is heading in the right direction than in the wrong direction.
On immigration, Trump celebrated the reduction of illegal border crossings and reinforced immigration policies. He stated: “We are experiencing something I never expected to see so soon: the weakening of democracy. We didn’t need new legislation to secure the border. We just needed a new president.”
Regarding trade tariffs, Trump mentioned imposing 25% tariffs on products from Canada and Mexico, as well as doubling rates on China to 20%. These measures aim to address what he perceives as unfair trade practices and protect the American economy.
The speech also addressed the intention to end the conflict in Ukraine, with Trump expressing willingness for peace negotiations and highlighting the importance of economic agreements. However, the address was marked by interruptions from Democratic lawmakers, including the expulsion of Congressman Al Green due to protests during the event.
